ABOUT KEVIN

Kevin has been passionate about music for as long as he can remember, begging his parents to get him piano lessons from as young as five years old! He got his wish in first grade, and has been making music ever since. Adding trumpet in first grade and choral music in high school, he first tried is hand at conducting ensembles as drum major for the Niwot High School marching band in Niwot, Colorado. Out of high school he attended the United States Naval Academy, where he participated in both the Drum and Bugle Corps and the Men's Glee Club, in which he sang lead in Clean Shave, the barbershop quartet.

While at Annapolis, Kevin decided to pursue music as a career instead of as a pastime, and he transferred to the University of Tennessee in Knoxville. There he earned the Bachelor of Music Education with a vocal emphasis and the Master of Music in choral conducting. While studying, he taught voice lessons at the Mount Olive Music Academy, conducted the University of Tennessee Women's Chorale, and was Associate Music Director at St. John XXIII Catholic Parish.

Upon completing graduate school, Kevin moved with his now husband, Eric, to Denver, Colorado, and began his career as a teacher. Over the next 8 years, he taught K-8 band, choir, and general music, middle and high school choir, and a concurrent music appreciation class for high school seniors through the University of Colorado. He also worked with various choirs in the community, including three seasons as Assistant Artistic Director of the Denver Gay Men's Chorus working with Mark Stamper, Tim Seelig, and James Knapp, and five years as Choir Director for Wheat Ridge Presbyterian Church.

Kevin is now Artistic Director of three ensembles: Sine Nomine, an auditioned SATB chamber chorus; Northland Chorale, and auditioned adult show choir; and the Sage Singers, a community chorus for elders in the LGBTQ community. Additionally he teaches general music classes for adults and has a private voice studio with over 25 students.

When he's not conducting or teaching, Kevin enjoys spending time traveling with his husband and their two dogs, reading, cooking, and exploring Denver.
